Today is TAX Day!
This means you must file your taxes electronically by midnight or they must be postmarked by today. Need an extension? Today is also the deadline to file for an extension to avoid non-filing penalties. You can file for an extension online or via USPS by mailing IRS form 4868. The IRS encourages you to make payment when filing for an extension to avoid late payment penalties. Payment plans are available to allow you to pay over a period of up to six (6) years.
If you’re a homeowner, be sure to review the allowable deductions for homeowners here on the IRS website. Residential energy credits, points paid at closing and mortgage interest may be deductible depending upon the circumstances. Make sure you take advantage of all available deductions to avoid over-paying your taxes! When in doubt, it’s always advisable to contact a tax professional for advice.
